Why should we support environmental organizations?
- The state of the environment has been rapidly deteriorating, and without the support of its inhabitants, the environment will cease to sustain life as we know it.
- Our environment has relentlessly tolerated the abuse inflicted by the human race; we are the ones who have caused the damage, and so we must be the ones to fix it.
- Environmental organizations are concerned with not only the present problems, but the problems we will encounter in the future as well. Each action we take to fix our situation now will give positive effects in our future.
- Our generation is the future, and it will soon be our responsibility to correct the misjudgments of the human race’s actions and secure a balance between us and the environment.
What are our opponents and points of focus?
Pollution
There are many types of pollution, most come from the same source – humans. Fortunately, this is an ailment which everyone is able to take a personal stand against when properly informed.
- Air pollution is an effect on the natural state of the atmosphere which can be detrimental to the health of the Earth’s inhabitants. This type of pollution can include harmful atmospheric conditions such as global warming, ozone depletion, smog, acid rain, and unhealthy breathing conditions.
- Water pollution is the result of unwanted chemicals and other harmful substances being added to the water which is vital the living beings of this planet. Oil spills, contaminated runoff, and factories each contribute to the pollution which is introduced to our water supply, causing unsafe drinking water and disasters such as acid rain.
- Other types of pollution include radioactive contamination, soil contamination, light pollution, and noise pollution. Each type of pollution can be harmful to nature and each being living within the Earth biome.
Conservation
Conservation is the act of protecting both plant and animal life and setting out to secure their habitat for the future.
- Plant life can be protected by limiting deforestation, reducing pollution to provide clean soil, water, and air, avoiding invasive species, and many other precautions. Plant life is a vital part of the ecosystem which all other forms of life depend on
- Animal life can be protected by identifying species which are in need of protection and by securing healthy living conditions for them to thrive in.
Overpopulation
Overpopulation of humans causes other species to compete for space as well as other resources, as well as increasing the amount of pollution which is created and released into the environment.
Global Warming
The warming of the Earth’s average temperature is known as global warming. Pollution is the cause of global warming, however this effect of pollution is so harmful to every aspect of the environment that its effects must be singled out.
- The melting of polar ice is a catastrophic effect of the rise in the Earth’s temperature. This causes land masses to become smaller as the polar ice shrinks. These losses of mass cause many species to lose their homes and to have to seek out a new one. Often the animal may not survive the loss of their habitat.
- Changed weather patterns are another effect of global warming, and include not only changes in temperature, but in precipitation and extreme weather events as well. These changes cause forced adaptation by different species, which cannot always happen at a fast enough rate to ensure survival.
